In May 2024, China's anode material production reached 164,000 tons, up 4% compared to the previous month and up 27% year-on-year.

Regarding this month's demand, on the power side, in May, following the release of the "Subsidy Implementation Rules for Car Replacement" policy, many car manufacturers and dealers launched preferential policies, boosting consumer enthusiasm for purchasing new energy vehicles, thereby increasing demand for power battery cells and anode materials. As one of the primary components of graphite anode, calcined coke plays a crucial role in battery anodes. On the energy storage side, the installation volume of energy storage batteries in May continued to increase compared to April, with battery cell manufacturers increasing their demand for anode materials. Additionally, the iteration of large-capacity energy storage battery cells further drove energy storage companies to test and procure anode materials. On the consumer side, with the arrival of the 618 shopping festival, many terminal enterprises stocked up in advance, leading to an increase in demand for battery cells and anode materials.

Looking ahead to June, considering that many battery cell companies have accumulated inventory in the previous period, and with the expectation of a decrease in market heat in July, battery cell companies may reduce their inventory, resulting in a decrease in demand for anode materials. It is estimated that China's anode material production in June will be 161,110 tons, down 2% compared to the previous month but up 13% year-on-year.
