The market for low-sulfur petroleum coke remained relatively quiet, with no significant improvement in demand from electrodes, anodes, or cathodes. Refinery inventory pressures were high, leading to multiple price reductions, and prices have fallen to a relatively low level. Despite a slight increase in market activity in September due to the traditional peak season, overall demand for low-sulfur coke remains lackluster. In September, while there is some demand for calcined coke in the electrode sector, the overall purchasing sentiment in the cathode sector remains sluggish. Companies may shift production towards calcined coke or petroleum coke to control green coke output. Prices for petroleum-based needle coke are expected to remain weak, with a possibility of slight declines due to continued pressure from downstream buyers.
