Electric furnace (EAF) steelmaking is a major user of graphite electrodes. In China, the EAF steel output accounts for about 18% of crude steel total output , and graphite electrode used for steelmaking accounts for 70% ~ 80% of graphite electrode total consumption.


The demand for graphite electrode is large. Graphite electrode begins to oxidize at about 600 ℃ in the air, while the steel-making furnace's atmosphere temperature is above 1500 ℃, and the oxidation speed is very fast. Data show that the oxidation of the electrode side column without anti-oxidation measures accounts for more than 60% of the electrode consumption during steel-making, and oxidation is the main reason for the increase in electrode consumption. So how to prevent graphite oxidation?

Graphite electrode anti-oxidation coating construction scheme

1. Substrate treatment

Remove the dust, foreign matters and other adherents on the surface of graphite electrode and graphite parts to ensure that the substrate surface is dry and clean.

2. Coating mixing

During the storage and transportation of the coating, precipitation is inevitable. During use, the coating shall be evenly stirred, filtered with a 40 mesh filter, and then poured into another container. Continuous slow stirring is required to ensure that the coating is always in suspension.

3. Environmental conditions

The ambient temperature during coating operation shall not be lower than 10℃, the surface temperature shall be at least 3℃ higher than the dew point, and the air relative humidity shall not exceed 85%.

4. Coating
