Main uses of graphitized petroleum coke

Graphitized petroleum coke is specifically used for pre-baking anode and anode paste of electrolytic aluminum, carbonizer produced by carbon industry, graphite electrode, smelting industrial silicon and fuel. According to the structure and shape of petroleum coke, it can be divided into needle coke, sponge coke, projectile coke and powder coke:

Needle coke

It has remarkable needle structure and fiber texture, which is specifically used for high-power and utra-high-power graphite electrodes in steelmaking. Because needle coke has strict quality index requirements in terms of sulfur content, ash content, volatile content and true density, there are special requirements for needle coke production process and raw materials.

Sponge coke

It has the characteristics of high chemical reaction activity and low impurity content. It is mainly used in aluminum smelting industry and carbon industry.

Pellet coke or spherical coke

The shape is round and spherical, with a diameter of 0.6-30mm. It is usually produced with high sulfur and high asphaltene residue, which can only be used as fuel for power generation, cement and other industries.

Powdered coke

Through the flow coking technology, the particles are fine (diameter 0.1-0.4mm), high volatility, high thermal expansion coefficient, it can not be directly applied to the electrode preparation and carbon industry. According to the sulfur content, it is divided into high sulfur coke (sulfur content more than 3%) and low sulfur coke (sulfur content less than 3%). Low sulfur coke can be used as anode paste for aluminum plant, pre-baked anode and graphite electrode for iron factories. Medium and high quality low sulfur coke (sulfur content less than 0.5%) can be used to produce graphite electrode and carburant. - High quality low sulfur coke (sulfur content less than 1.5%) is often used to bake anodes before production. Low quality petroleum coke is mainly used in industrial silicon refining and anodic paste production, fuel for cement plants and power stations.

In the case of graphite electrode for steelmaking or anode paste (melting electrode) for aluminum and magnesium, the raw coke must be calcined in order to meet the requirements of petroleum coke (raw coke). The calcination temperature is usually about 1300 ℃, and the purpose is to remove the volatile components in petroleum coke as much as possible, which can reduce the hydrogen content in the recycled products of petroleum coke and improve the graphitization degree of petroleum coke, so as to improve the high temperature strength and heat resistance of graphite electrode and improve the conductivity of graphite electrode.

Calcined coke is mainly used to produce graphite electrode, carbon paste products, silicon carbide, food-grade phosphorus industry, metallurgical industry, calcium carbide, etc., the most widely used is graphite electrode. It can be directly used as calcium carbide as the main raw material without calcination; It can produce silicon carbide and boron carbide as abrasives; It can be directly used as coke of blast furnace in metallurgical industry or carbon brick of blast furnace wall lining, and can also be used as dense coke in casting process, reading more petroleum coke news contact us
