Explain the classification of "petroleum coke"

Petroleum coke is the product of light and heavy oil separated from crude oil by distillation and hot cracking of heavy oil. Graphite electrode is one of the main products of petroleum coke and the best material for EAF steelmaking.

Its main characteristics are that the carbon content is usually above 80wt%, the sulfur content is 0.3wt% - 9.0wt%, and the rest is hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen and trace metal elements such as vanadium, calcium, nickel and sodium.

Classification by morphology

It is mainly divided into sponge coke, pellet coke, quicksand coke and needle coke; China mainly produces sponge coke, accounting for about 95%, and the rest is pellet coke and a smaller amount of needle coke.

  • Sponge coke is generally used in carbon industries such as prebaked anode, graphite electrode and carburant, and some are used in industries such as anode materials, metal silicon, silicon carbide and titanium dioxide;

  • Pellet coke is generally used in glass, cement, power plant and other fuel fields;

  • Needle coke is mainly used to produce graphite electrode and anode materials;

  • Quicksand coke calorific value is lower than that of pellet coke, which is also used in the fuel industry.

Classification by index

It is divided into 1 # - 5 # petroleum coke according to the content of sulfur, ash, volatile and other indicators. For more information about petroleum coke graphite electrode products, please contact us.
